Site Selection

Sites are selected based on a number of criteria:

  • They include habitat of target species
  • They are protected into the foreseeable future to facilitate future collections from the same site.
  • They provide good coverage across the range of each species.
  • They occurr across an environmental gradient, such as cool - warm, or arid - moist.

Note: This map does not include new sites from 2015 that are not yet in the database, or sites awaiting entry of coordinates. Climate overlays derived from PRISM 30-year (1981-2010) temperature and precipitation normals

Preserved Site Maps

This map was developed by Project Baseline to locate sites from various land ownerships that will be protected into the future.

The USGS GAP protected sites map is another useful tool for identifying protected sites for Project Baseline and other research projects.
