"1"	"1"	"1"	"Williams Bluff is prairie underneath open pine canopy. I was not able to scout as much as I would like since I was there alone and many of the roads were blocked by fallen trees. Also, be careful about traveling here without an off-road vehicle - there are very sandy stretches of road that you can get stuck on. From what I could see, some of our target grasses should be collectable here. I would think Andropogon gerardii, Sorghastrum nutans, Panicum virgatum, Schizachyrium scoparium. However, I would use Tall Timbers Research Station instead which is roughly and hour away."	"0"	"wink0113"	"2014-01-06 13:21:22"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"
"2"	"2"	"2"	"Met with Rob Plowes and briefly discussed the goal of my visit. He was not able to accompany me around the site, but helped me outline areas where I was most likely to find target species. I could not locate large populations of target species. Helianthus annuus population can be found at 30.281475 -97.780239. However, many of the flowers seem to be enclosed by a fence. I couldn't tell if it was an experiment (much of the land has experimental facilities/setups). Much of Brackenridge is dense forest, I did not scout inside the forest. There are very few open areas and many of the open areas are small pockets on the side of paths/trails. I would be hesitant to use Brackenridge as a collection site since Barton Creek and Stengl Lost Pines are nearby."	"0"	"wink0113"	"2014-01-06 14:17:12"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"
"3"	"3"	"3"	"Drove around the site with Tucker Slack and Eric Woolverton. There weren't any botanists on site, so plant identification was rough. I was told that a botanist would be on site during the week to double-check target plant populations. We have notes that Andropogon virginicus is located on site - unsure if this is true. Areas of Gus Engeling have been recently burned (will receive a burn history map) and native plants have started to grow there, but identification couldn't be done this early. There should be a mix of native prairie grasses growing, but predominantly Andropogon ternarius. Plenty of Chamaecrista fasciculata on site. Very abundant populations, so collection shouldn't be a problem. Andropogon gerardii populations seem to be patchy, not ideal for collection at the moment. Should wait to see if populations grow in recently burned areas."	"0"	"jahnk083"	"2014-01-06 14:48:48"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"
"4"	"4"	"4"	"Big bluestem population (n > 1000) at coordinates 33.310733 -96.248067. We should be able to collect seeds here in September/October. Some areas of the preserve were recently burned in March and October. Andropogon gerardii, Bouteloua curtipendula, Chamaecrista fasciculata, Echinacea angustifolia, Helianthus annuus, are all found on site. Hypericum punctatum is also found - similar to H. perforatum. See the vegetation survey (Clymer Meadow Plants.pdf). Population size of each species on the list should be sufficiently large for collection, with the exception of Silphium laciniatum, Saptisia australis, and Manfreda virginica. There are populations of eastern gamagrass (Tripsacum dactyloides) that appear to be a unique ecotype and are shorter than normal." "9"	"9"	"14"	"Andropogon gerardii, Bouteloua curtipendula, and B. dactyloides can be found easily in Unit 104, 105, and 93 (see map). B. dactyloides can be easily collected near the Black Kettle office building. The grasses should be ready around August/September. The terrain is mainly rolling hills. B. dactyloides and B. curtipendula can be found on top of the hills and A. gerardii should be found along the slopes and at the bottom of the hills. Rattlesnakes are common in the area, so use caution when in the area."	"0"	"wink0113"	"2014-01-08 13:57:36"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"
"10"	"10"	"19"	"Selman Living Laboratory is roughly 7 miles away, so Gloria Caddell can keep track of the plants here and provide a place to stay at Selman. Andropogon gerardii, Bouteloua curtipendula, and B. dactyloides can be found easily. Helianthus annuus and H. petiolaris can be found in disturbed areas and underneath the tram at Alabaster. There is a gate just north of the entrance that leads to small populations of H. annuus, Polygonum sp., and Echinacea angustifolia. Triodanis perfoliata and Hypericum perforatum can also be found along the path/road."	"0"	"wink0113"	"2014-01-09 13:03:42"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"
"11"	"11"	"20"	"UOBS is mostly forest and dense shrubland. There are three dirt paths that lead into the ecological research area along Oklahoma University Road. Use caution when in the area - Toxicodendron radicans is abundant and the paths are rough and narrow. Andropogon gerardii is occasional in the ecological research area. Chamaecrista fasciculata is fairly common along the paths and along Lake Texoma. Speak to Donna Cobb for information on housing at UOBS. Housing is normally cheap or free for researchers. It's located roughly 70 miles away from Decatur, TX (Caddo-LBJ Grasslands) and Celeste, TX (Clymer Meadow)."	"0"	"wink0113"	"2014-01-09 13:12:43"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"

The actual ecological area is not at the site coordinates recorded in the site record (that is the observatory). You can find Andropogon gerardii, Bouteloua curtipendula, and B. dactyloides at 36.7035 -99.2684. There is also Triodanis perfoliata in the area, but seed collection would most likely have to be done around May. If you drive north from Mooreland, OK, Hypericum perforatum can be found along the road."	"0"	"wink0113"	"2014-01-09 13:24:07"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"
"13"	"13"	"22"	"Met with Melissa Whittington and toured the site. She has agreed to keep an eye out for target species and will send me coordinates of populations. She will also contact other field sites to check where we may find other target species. There should be large populations of Triodanis perfoliata and T. biflora around 32.682917 -93.663833 and around the Cypress Nature Study Center facility. There are definitely Echinacea and Hypericum species here, but I couldn't determine the species except for E. pallida. I'm confident that C. fasciculata occurs somewhere on site and it is marked as being found within the property, but we did not have a chance to locate it. It should also be noted that most of the species on the property are natural populations."	"0"	"wink0113"	"2014-01-09 14:22:28"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"
"14"	"14"	"23"	"Met with Andre Daugereaux and toured the site. There is Andropogon gerardii and Chamaecrista fasciculata, but it is planted. The only abundant, natural target species would be Andropogon virginicus. A. virginicus is abundant on the site, but will occur in different areas yearly due to mowing. It will not be difficult to spot populations, however."	"0"	"wink0113"	"2014-01-09 15:05:01"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"
"15"	"15"	"24"	"Summary of visit (including species found, population locations, and notes on phenology): Most of the species here wont be ready until fall (September to November). There is a good population of Echinacea purpurea at 34.12862 N, 85.40522 W. There is also a lot of Tripsacum dactyloides at the same coordinates. I would highly recommend that you have someone guide you to this location it is not a simple hike! Your best bet would be Malcolm. There is a great spot to collect several of our target species at 34.13567 N, 85.41195 W. It is a long road that passes through those coordinates, so you dont actually have to go to that precise location. One side of the road is open prairie and the other side is prairie underneath open canopy. At the above coordinates, I found Andropogon gerardii, Panicum virgatum, Sorghastrum nutans, Tripsacum dactyloides, Chamaecrista fasciculata, Helianthus mollis. There are Rudbeckia and Hypericum species but we werent able to key them in the field."	"0"	"webe0565"	"2014-01-10 14:03:36"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"
"16"	"16"	"25"	"This was one of the first site visits I did that was not local (near NYC). "17"	"17"	"34"	"On this visit we scouted sites for target species, but we were limited by intense rainstorms. Jason Love directed us to a few potential sites at Coweeta and at a nearby place (Land Trust for the Little Tennessee) that works with Coweeta. We found a pop each of S. lyrata and T. perfoliata at Coweeta dn at the LTLT. Most other species at Coweeta were woodland species (not on the PB list)"	"0"	"webe0565"	"2014-01-28 12:58:21"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"
"18"	"18"	"43"	"The site was surveyed for target species, and we began collections of some early flowering species. Site access is simple (drivable) with many target species occurring in disturbed areas around the main buildings (dorms, greenhouse, lodge, mansion) and less species in the woods." "19"	"19"	"48"	"We surveyed the forest via insight from Jessica about where to look for our target species. Most potential populations were found on the edge of the forest or in open/disturbed areas as few of the current PB species are woodland inhabitants. Therefore, populations can be easily accessed via trails and roads at NYBG."	"0"	"webe0565"	"2014-01-30 13:07:14"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"
"20"	"20"	"53"	"Under the direction of Sara and Judson I scouted sites that were likely to have the target species - mostly this included disturbed (recently wooded or burned) areas. Some target species were on the actual trails and flanking the edge of the woods. Trails leading into the woods did not result in many good new sites - I will simply follow the tips of Sara and Judson and refer to the Duke Forest map for guidance for 2014." "21"	"21"	"60"	"This is a small site ran by CH Botanical Gardens - with tips from Johnny Randall we found some target species alongside paths and open meadows. This site has fairly easy access (parking area and the rest is walkable). The mixed meadows are great for PB because they are not over run by invasive species or degraded by abundant deer grazing." "22"	"22"	"63"	"This is a really friendly small site with easy access and knowledgeable staff. Working here is a pleasure - you can stay on site and drive right up to potential areas. Only a handful of species occur here, but for 2014 I would like to get back to this site more frequently and try to recruit help from some of grad students/staff." "23"	"23"	"74"	"Scott Bailey was very supportive of the Project Baseline efforts - though we did not get our permit application done in time for official approval - he granted permission for seed collection along roads and near buildings. This was actually ideal, because these disturbed areas are where most of our target species tend to occur. If we decide to add forest species for 2014 we will need to get an official permit. Scott provided guidance on species locations - note that most researchers here are experts on animals! But I was able to find two target species on site." "34"	"34"	"149"	"Met with Roxie Campbell, the park naturalist, to talk about plants on site. She went through our species list to tell us which were present at Rock Bridge State Park and which were planted or remnant populations. See also map, which marks species in locations at Rock Bridge. Andropogon gerardii: planted in Grassland Trail area in large enough populations to collect (MO seed sources planted in 1982) or remnant populations in remnant prairies on site (but probably not large enough populations to collect from). Andropogon virginicus: lots of remnant populations in old fields (near Wagon Wheel Trailhead) and glades (near Coyote Bluff). Impatiens capensis: present along streams in the park, but no large populations. Suggested Katy Trail State Park in Rocheport has large populations. Triodanis perfoliata: some in old fields and in the Grassland Trail area. Amoprha canescens: planted in grassland trail area, but not a lot (maybe 25-50 plants total). Bouteloua curtipendula: present in the glade area, but not in large numbers. May not be enough to collect. Echinacea purpurea: planted in the glade, but only a few present. Leah and I walked the Grassland Trail to scout for populations. Plenty of Andropogon gerardii, Apocynum cannibinum, Achillea millefolium, Penstemon digitalis. Some Triodanis perfoliata in the northwest crux of the trail between the main trail and the white connector trail, just off the trail (~50 plants). Also, about 50-100 plants of T. perfoliata scattered along the east loop of the trail, from forest edge to the trailhead. "35"	"35"	"150"	"Very hot, which limited our scouting a little. Met with Dana Hoisington at the visitor center and he showed us where our target plants may occur (see also map). They have a very small amount of Impatiens capensis along the stream, but not nearly enough to collect. Dana also said there was some Bouteloua curtipendula, but wasn't sure how much or where it would be located. They have lots of Helianthus mollis, but no Helianthus annuus. There may be some Brassica nigra on roadsides, but we didn't see any during our visit. We hiked the north half of Drover's Trail (the large loop), but ran into bison on the trail and couldn't walk the rest of the trail. Saw 100-200 Amorpha canescens just uphill from the beginning of the trail (near the visitor center). Saw a couple of flower heads of Echinacea pallida along the far end of the loop on the trail - there are probably many more not flowering yet (Dana said it was a large population). Next, we hiked Gay Feather Trail and found a population of Echinacea pallida on the north branch (37.5145243N -94.5731009W). It was a large but not huge population, so it may or may not be big enough to collect from. Walked Haunkah Prairie next and found lots of Andropogon gerardii (37.5041454N -94.5532010W). We also found two Triodanis perfoliata plants, but no more than that. Hiked the Path of the Sky People. We found a population of several hundred Amorpha canescens (~500 plants) and Linum sulcatum along the north branch of the trail (37.5060702N -94.5295822W). Scattered Amorpha canescens along the south end of the trail, too. Dana thought there was Triodanis perfoliata plants along this trail, too, but we didn't see any. Also, Dana thought there would be lots of Andropogon virginicus in the corner of land between Central Road and NW 150th Lane (NW corner). A fence prevented us from scouting there (can get around the fence if needed, but we ran out of time to walk around). Also saw lots of Coreopsis sp. (lanceolata?), Achillea millefolium, Rhus sp., Aster sp., Orbexilum pedunculatum??"	"0"	"sope0007"	"2014-04-07 12:03:48"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"

She also has a complete species list she can email (need to follow up with her later to ask for it). Most of the land at Bull Shoals is rocky limestone and very dry - oak forest, savanna, and glades. Celeste showed us three areas to scout. First, an open field of Andropogon gerardii and Sorghastrum nutans (possibly planted?) across from a field of Sorghum halepense (large population) at 36.5659222N -93.1012192W. Second, two glades down a side road (we scouted the nearest glade which was really cool, but we didn't hike the 2.5 miles to the next glade since we found little of interest at the first glade, but to find it you can follow the same road farther) - found only some Andropogon gerardii (36.5659222N -93.1012192W). Third, areas around the Drury House (the second field house at the end of Drury Road - one is an openish savanna leading down to the lake and the other is an open area on the other side of the house and down the hill). We found Andropogon gerardii and Sorghastrum nutans, but no other focal species. Also found lots of Verbascum thaspum, Helianthus sp., Asclepias sp. (tuberosa?), unknown mint species, and Juniperus virginiana."	"0"	"sope0007"	"2014-04-07 12:26:57"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"

Most sites are/were maintained with fire, but Barb's Prairie was planted originally by The Nature Conservancy (they probably know the seed sources) and is now owned by the IL DNR. Lots of very unique but small open sites along the bluffs. Saw Amorpha canescens, Sorghastrum nutans, Schizachyrium scoparium, Triodanis perfoliata (40.3712190N -91.4006172W, with Carex pennsylvanica, Penstemon pallida, Parthenocissus quinquefolia) and lots along trials and in oak barrens on site) in large enough populations to collect. T. perfoliata will likely be ready to collect in about one month. Sean says there is much Impatiens capensis (and maybe I. pallida) on the site. Also small populations of Linum sulcatum, Echinacea pallida, Echinacea purpurea. Also saw Melanthium virginicum, a rare species in IL. Then talked to Kim Schmidt (a grad student working on turtles), and she suggested many specific locations to look at on site. Both Cody and Kim had to leave at 4:00, but Ben (an intern) drove us around to many sites to look for plants. She suggested locations for Andropogon virginicus and Impatiens capensis, and thought at least one Brassica sp. grew in nearby farm fields (not on public land). Based on her information, we scouted several areas: Reelfoot Lake Refuge Visitor Center (36.4525874N -89.3028187W): they are planting warm season grasses this summer, including Andropogon gerardii. They already have lots of Sorghastrum nutans, Sorghum halepense, Galium sp., and Rudbeckia hirta across from the area to be planted. Keystone Trail (state park land, 36.3877167N -89.4518081W): Large population of Impatiens capensis, Toxicodendron radicans, Parthenocissus quinquefolia, Fallopia japonica, Taxodium distichum, Populus deltoides Hamilton Road (36.4012653N -89.3353795W), where we found lots of Andropogon virginicus (or Schizachyrium scoparium??). Lisa mentioned they are going to try to let the fields (full of dense brush) grow into a forest. Boardwalk trail on Grassy Island Wildlife Drive, where we didn't see any focal species. Lots of Toxicodendron radicans, Parthenocissus quinquefolia, and invasive bamboo. Far east road in Long Point Unit (along a stream) but didn't find any focal species. "171"	"172"	"1260"	"Met with Rachael Ranft and discussed goals of my visit. Took a tour of the preserve and scouted locations of grasses and target species. This site has very rough terrain - four wheel drive and high clearance required. Cibolo Bluffs would be a good location to collect Lupinus texensis. Locations for L. texensis are 29.6731, 98.3693 and 29.6688, 98.3737 and 29.6756, 98.3726. Grasslands are located at 29.6747, 98.3612 and 29.6757, 98.3726. The grasses couldn't be identified at the same time but Bouteloua curtipendula and Bouteloua dactyloides are known to occur on the site. "172"	"173"	"1261"	"Met with Dr. Charles Allen at his home (Allen Acres Bed and Breakfast). There is a large population of Andropogon virginicus behind his home at the above location. Natural populations of A. gerardii can be found along the forest edge in clumps (50-100 individuals per clump). There is a mix of planted and natural Chamaecrista fasciculata and planted Andropogon gerardii at Allen Acres. The seeds are non-commercial and came from within 100 miles of the area - not sure if we should consider collecting those species here. C. fasciculata is widely planted as food for quail so that should be taken into consideration when collecting it. There is a military outpost nearby called Fort Polk which is said to have natural populations of Echinacea purpurea and Hypericum frondosum. I would talk to Charles Allen about how to get a permit to access this property if interested. We will also need to contact the US Forest Service about collecting in KNF if we haven't already done so."	"0"	"della015"	"2015-03-06 12:01:39"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"
"173"	"174"	"1262"	"Paulding Forest WMA and Sheffield WMA are connected, but I spent more time in Paulding. Most of what we want can be accessed along the dirt paths in Paulding and should be read in the fall. Plants that we could collect there include Andropogon gerardii, Sorghastrum nutans, Rudbeckia hirta, Schizachyrium scoparium. Chamaecrista fasciculata could probably be collected at Paulding, but I couldn't find a dense population of it. Panicum virgatum can be found at Paulding, but it is planted and the source is unknown. Coordinates for reference: 34.02081 N, 84.96052 W 34.01863 N, 84.95194 W 33.99055 N, 84.94263 W - I didn't scout this area, but this is a great spot to work out of. "174"	"175"	"1263"	"Andropogon virginicus and Chamaecrista fasciculata won't be a problem to collect here - abundant and dense around the La Chua Trail. Tripsacum dactyloides is abundant along SR 441, but I'm not sure if it is their property - may have to contact Department of Transportation? It is also found along the bike trails inside the park, but not as dense as SR 441. The entrance to the La Chua Trail can be found at the intersection of SE 41st Avenue and Camp Ranch Road. It isn't the main entrance to the park, so you'll have to drive around it on SR 441 to get there (or ask someone to take you)."	"0"	"della015"	"2015-03-06 13:08:00"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"

Triodanis biflora, Chamaecrista fasciculatum, Linum sulcatum, Rumex hastatulus known to occur on site, but could not be found/identified at the time. Steven has agreed to keep track of plant phenology for me and keep me updated on identified/located target species."	"0"	"della015"	"2015-03-06 14:01:19"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"

Rudbeckia hirta and target grasses can be found at 30.77019 N, 84.09306 W. There was also a Penstemon sp. last found here in 2006?, but we weren't able to find it. You can find plenty of Chamaecrista fasciculata in areas around the road (especially the road leading into Tall Timbers). Lodging is available at the new Walter Lodge - I would highly recommend using this site to work out of if you plan on visiting District 1 state parks in FL. It costs $30/night." Population of Impatiens pallida and Schizachyrium scoparium were found but not collected due to smaller than expected population sizes. Melilotus officinalis collection was made from a smaller area of the overall population-species was present in nearly all open areas of the site. Leaves and flowers had mostly senesced at collection time, but some plants still had some remaining. Ambrosia artemisifolia collection was made throughout the entire detected range of the population. None of the plant had begun to senesce at all. At least 50% of the population still had male and female flowers intact. Asclepias incarnata collection was made from entire detected range of population. None of the plants were still in flower. Plants ranged from leaves beginning to senesce and fruit beginning to dehisce to fruits very recently developing. Impatiens capensis collection was made throughout a concentrated population where Impatiens pallida had previously (2013) been seen. Most of the population was both in flower and in fruit. Dactylils glomerata collection was made from concentrated population. Outside this area scattered individuals were infrequently encountered. Basal leaves still intact and green but flower stalks and fruits brown and dry."	"0"	"nfisher"	"2016-03-10 16:03:25"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"

Also saw some Rudbeckia hirta (flowering), Melilotus officinalis, and Hypericum perforatum in the power ling right of way right at the park entrance. Also walked a couple of traits without much luck in finding our species."	"0"	"sope0007"	"2016-03-28 10:49:11"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"

"324"	"324"	"3427"	"We didn't officially scout this park, but made some superficial observations while camping on site. There is one or more large prairies in the park (for example, at the GPS coordinates listed) that may be restored and/or remnants. We saw many prairie species, including Tradescantia ohiensis, Andropogon gerardii, Schizachyrium scoparium, Sorghastrum nutans, possibly Panicum virgatum, Ratibida pinnata, and Silphium laciniatum. The forests near the campground had lots of Parthenocissus quinquefolia, Toxicodendron radicans, Lupinus sp., and Podophyllum peltatum. It may be worth our time to send someone back to the site to scout more thoroughly and learn more about the history of the prairie areas." "325"	"325"	"3428"	"Walked along the bike path, then took the road down to the river where it was badly flooded. The entire area looks like floodplain habitat with rocky cliffs facing the river. We saw Rubus sp., Dactylis glomerata, some Tradescantia ohiensis, some Impatiens capensis (seems like there's probably more when it's not flooded), Parthenocissus quinquefolia, Bromus inermis, and lots of Urtica dioica." "326"	"326"	"3429"	"Entire campground and much of the trail system was underwater due to flooding. Therefore we didn't hike any of the trails. We visited both the north and south entrances as far as we could before running into roads closed for flooding. A ranger said some of the hill tops have prairie remnants with Echinacea pallida and other prairie plants, but did not confirm due to trail access problems. While there, we saw lots of Apocynum cannibinum along the south entrance, a handful of Brassica nigra (not ready to collect yet), and many weedy species (Bromus inermis, Mellilotus officinalis, Trifolium pratense, Trifolium repens, etc)." "327"	"327"	"3430"	"Visited just a couple of days too late to collect Impatiens (hard freeze just a couple days previously). Lots of Impatiens pallida (probably some Impatiens capensis, too) along the trails, but no fruits left. Scattered pockets of Dactylis glomerata and Bromus inermis along the trails, and a few scattered Geranium maculatum. In the Bicore Prairie (almost certainly planted) there were many prairie species, including Andropogon gerardii, Sorghastrum nutans, Solidago sp., Silphium lacinatum, Monarda fistulosa, Echinacea pallida, Ratibida pinnata, etc."	"0"	"sope0007"	"2016-04-01 13:46:36"	"wink0113"	"2016-05-16 13:03:34"
